The Best Social Bookmarking Tools
If you are using Social Bookmarking as part of your traffic generation strategy then you will probably want to find a social bookmarking tool that makes the job much faster and easier than logging into each site individually. If you’re using blogs it’s also a good idea to have a social bookmarking plugin so your visitors can easily bookmark your posts, or at the least it may remind them to bookmark your site using a bookmarklet for whatever social bookmarking site they use.
Here’s a rundown of some of the sites I like that act as Social Bookmarking Aggregators. What these sites do is act as a front-end for posting to many of the social bookmarking sites all at once. This can save you a lot of time.
OnlyWire is an aggregator for a fair number of social bookmarking sites. They provide a service that gives you a single login to bookmark to multiple sites. They are also very good about adding new sites to their list based on suggestions from users. Through them I’ve found many really good social bookmarking sites I never knew about.
The site is very simple and easy to use, there is a list of social bookmarking sites and you fill in your login details for each. There is a link to each site in case you aren’t already a member, making it easy to sign up. Then, when you want to bookmark to any or all of these sites, all you have to do is login to OnlyWire and submit the page you want to bookmark. They also have a bookmarklet that you can drag to the bookmarks toolbar of your browser, making it really quick and easy to bookmark pages from your browser.
You can also add an OnlyWire button to your site so your visitors can bookmark your pages to multiple services as well.
SocialMarker has both a bookmarklet you can drag to your browser bookmarks toolbar allowing you to submit a site to 46 of the best social bookmarking sites on the net, as well as a WordPress plugin.
Like most plugins, it’s easy to install and when you do a button will appear at the bottom of each post. I found it quite un-intuitive to use though, when you click on the button you are taken to the SocialMarker site, with all their information, which I found quite distracting as a ‘user’. The different social bookmarking services are easy to see and use, and the information from the post is already autofilled for you. But it took me a lot of hunting to find the submit button, if I was really a user I probably would have given up on it.
I’ll be adding new social bookmarking tools as I come across them. Leave a comment and let me know if you have a favorite that I’ve missed.
